Vanity Plates

I will say that I do not understand the need for a vanity plate on a car.  Sometimes you have people who want to express their support for a sports team, state the obvious or be funny.  Today I pulled into the parking lot and noticed one:  F8ON USC = Fight on USC, as in the USC Trojans college football team.  I know who it belongs to.  One guy at work owns an orange mustang with a plate that reads: ITSORNG.  There was one that had me stumped for awhile.  I know the guy whose car it is and that should have been a hint but someone had to finally tell me what it meant.  I only could get half of it: IX FE  If you guess in the comments I will eventually reveal what it is if no one has guessed correctly.  One lady at work has one.  She lives around me and I always know when it's her driving obviously since it's her name.  I prefer not to attract attention to myself I guess and want to remain anonymous.  Even my brother in law has one.  I won't reveal his specific plate as we live in the same state, but I will say it has to do with his profession.  I know his is all about his hard work and letting everyone know he is a dentist.

Do you or anyone you know have a vanity plate?  Have you seen a vanity plate you thought was really good or made you think?  Most of them are stupid but sometimes people come up with something smart.

  1. KACDGK6.....Clever?

I've had the same plate for almost 17 years. When I say the same, I really mean it's the same one, never replaced. Illinois is ridiculous, in that they charge $116 per year, $13 dollars more than the $99 yearly fee to buy a renewal sticker for a vanity plate, even though my plate is rusty and looks like shit.

  2. I'll guess any say that it's all of you together? I like it. I agree about the cost though. That's crazy. I think in PA it's a one time $50 fee for the plate and regular registration costs of $36 per year per car after that. I would have to ask my BIL. That's probably why I see so many in PA. Here they seem to revamp the plates every time some genius comes up with a new idea for them. About 10 years about they totally redid them and we got completely new plate numbers. One of our two is peeling but I don't know if we need to do anything about it or not. We have enough problems though so I just ignore it.

  3. I get the license plate! IX is the Roman numeral for 9 and FE is the symbol for iron. The plate reads nine iron and he's a golf fan. Now gimme my prize!

  4. And yes, I had one that said "Boux" for a few years.

  5. Ding, ding, ding, you get the prize! You are right, the plate is nine iron. He plays a lot of golf & ironically I parked next to him this morning. He normally works at the other building. You can pick your prize. Something from Chocolate World.

Did I miss the reason behind "Boux"? I have seen you refer to it before but wasn't sure about the backstory.

  6. No, but someone just asked me on my blog about it too and I promised to tell the story and I probably should.

Someday. If my lazy behind ever gets with the program.

  7. I do not have a vanity plate personally I think it's an invitation to get the kind of attention you don't need. However we have a company vehicle with logo all over it and the plate says GR8STK. (Great Steak) this I think is clever.

  8. I knew someone who was devoutly religious whose plate said "psalm" and was and anagram of the first letter of each person in his family. Meh.

I've thought about plates that say Frimmy because it would only ID me via online activity. But I just don't care enough to go get them.

  9. That's a cool one Noelle. I can see advertising for the business. Frimmy are they all that expensive for you? Or is it just a hassle? For us it's just the hassle. The DMV headquarters isn't far, it's just busy and a pain. Plus as my mother would say, I am fickle and would probably change my mind.

DH & I have thought about doing plates but there's a catch. Whenever we get a new car, I get it. That would mean whatever plate is on the oldest car now becomes mine for the newer car. So I wouldn't want to personalize it too much. That would suck for him. I had a fun time trying to explain that to the insurance agent the last time we bought a new car. We are honest on our weekly mileage for insurance purposes & I travel farther so I was letting her know. I guess we are odd. Not surprised by that. Most people I guess our age and situation have a minivan and a truck around here. Ah, not us.
